The association, the guild, the groups of textile friends have made it their task to preserve the flax tradition of past times and to give the fibre a living future.
By collecting and passing on flax traditions and stories from the Mühlviertel and all over the world, we also keep the flax craft alive.
HONOUR WOMEN'S LIVES
Textile work has almost always been women's work. An important area of daily life and yet hardly recorded or appreciated. With Berta's flax we do biographical work that also touches modern women's lives.
Flax cultivation, fibre extraction, spinning and weaving - all this was common knowledge 100 years ago. With workshops, lectures and demonstrations, we want to preserve this old craft for the future.
COLLECT MATERIAL HISTORY
Breaks, hackles, chest and of course flax - we preserve and honour the tools around flax processing and make the still existing dowry fibres available to our members for processing.
The international guild connects people from all over the world, but also very locally, who share a love of fibre, handicrafts and history.
FLAX AS A FIBRE OF THE FUTURE
Flax is frugal, needs no pesticides, less water than cotton and is the perfect answer to the problems of fast fashion. Berta's Flax helps not only to give flax back its past, but also to give it a future.
Spinner, craft teacher, storyteller. Berta "happened" to her and she takes the mission of giving a future to flax by giving back her stories to the people behind the fibre very seriously.
Textile artist, deeply rooted in old traditions from all over the world. She networks, looks beyond the end of her nose, carries Berta into the wide world of art and culture.
Scythe teacher, restorer in the carpentry trade and craft all-rounder. He not only brings his skill in repairing old hand tools to the association, but also takes care of the website and helps in the back office.
